When it comes to writing a resume, you may think of this as something that you should do only when you are applying for a job. However, if you have been working at a company for a while and you are interested in moving up the ranks, why not write your resume for a promotion. You may find that this is a fantastic way to get your needs met while also showcasing what you've done for the company. Often times, this will encourage your employer to take you up on your promotion goals.

Tips to Help You Write a Resume

With this goal in mind, consider the following resume writing tips. You may find that it is easier to get the promotion that you want than you though it was.

• First, write a summary section. In this section, you want to explain why you are submitting the resume. Be specific about what you are applying for and why you think you qualify for the position.

• Focus on your current position and the accomplishments you've had there. You want to show that you have done a lot to help the company to excel. List projects you were a part of and opportunities you brought in. Include sales figures if this applies.

• Discuss your education only if it applies to the higher level of position you are applying for. In other words, if you have an MBA and the promotion would require you to have this degree level, share that information on your resume. This is also a good place to list any additional training you've received recently that could help you to be more of a qualified candidate for the position.

• If you've already worked at the higher position for another company, be sure to list this as well. You want to show that you know how to do the job or that you have some job experience in this field. It is a good idea for you to discuss the job skills you have in the field, too.

• Summarize your qualifications and your goals for the promotion. You can make a statement here about why you want this position and what you think you can do for the company.

Submitting a resume for a promotion is one of the best ways to present information to the hiring manager or business owner in a concise manner. This will get their attention. It provides all of the information necessary to making that promotion decision.
